The Universal Penman, a monumental anthology of the work of 25 masters of calligraphy from the first half of the 18th century, is not typeset like other books produced at the time. Instead, each of over 200 pages is elegantly engraved. The book was intended as a practical copy-book to assist businessmen and students to attain fine penmanship with the use of quill pens.
