Description
In the Age of Enlightenment, when animal species were first classified in accordance with a system developed by Linnaeus, Jablonsky's work remains one of the most attractive and accurate early works on insects. Jablonsky did the drawings for many of the hand-colored copperplate engravings and oversaw the publication of the first two volumes of a ten volume set. His colleague, Johann Herbst, continued work on the remaining eight volumes after Jablonsky's untimely death. Hamilton Library holds six plates from the series.
