"The next step is to remove the siapo from the board and to let it dry. Then, by hand, the black dye is added to outline the pattern. This dye is usually shiny.
Tapas vary as to pattern, thickness and size. Distinctive patterns can be recognized from the various island groups. Old tapa designs have names, some of which are famous and highly prized." --Joan Griffis
