Wood engraving, hand-colored using stencils. The Battle of the Pyramids celebrates one of the achievements of the Emperor Napoleon when, in 1798, French forces defeated the Muslims. This allowed Napoleon's victorious entry into Cairo. These prints, sold by peddlers to French peasants and townsfolk, helped to establish the Napoleonic legend among the French people.
