Since Wu Yuan Lu, a Chinese coroner's handbook was unsuitable for Korean use, King Yŏngjo (1694-1776) commanded its revision. The book, comprising amendments and augmentations was published in Hancha (Chinese characters); however, for easy reading Sŏ Yu-rin and his associates developed a Korean translation in 1792. The books describe methods for detecting causes of death that aided in providing justice in legal cases.
