Interest in Pitcairn Island revived when the island's pastor visited England to receive hold orders in 1850. Consequently T. B. Murray published this work which recounts life on Pitcairn, the voyage of the Bounty, the mutiny on April 28, 1789 and the 3,618 mile voyage of Captain Bligh and 18 of his men in an open boat. Murray included the island register from 1790 to 1853 and an important list of vessels that visited Pitcairn from 1808 to 1853. This engraving shows Thursday October Christian, the son of a Tahitian mother and Fletcher Christian, leader of the mutiny.
