Description
Originally from Arizona, John Melville Kelly came to Honolulu in 1923 intending to work for an advertising firm for only one year. He and his wife embraced Hawai'i and decided to stay. Later he headed the art department of the Honolulu Star Bulletin and, over the course of his life, was recognized as a master draftsman and exacting technician who became one of Hawaii's most-known printmakers. The Jean Charlot Collection includes over 100 of his prints given specifically for students to study his work closely. This print is a gift of Kathleen Kelly.
