Chester A. Doyle, official Japanese interpreter for the judiciary department, went to Hilo to interpret with instructions to go to Honokaa. In Hilo, the sheriff informed Doyle that Judge Little will not let him into the court. This was after Doyle had exposed the judge for plagerizing a speech from Robert Ingersoll. The judge and Doyle got into a fight.
