Currently when you do an advanced search, you get an option to search for field entries that: CONTAIN; STARTS WITH; ENDS WITH; IS the text you enter.
STARTS WITH is not a word truncation; SP looks for a field entry that starts with the text string. ENDS WITH, same thing.
CONTAINS is a front and back truncation; SP looks for any incidence of the text string, even characters within words. E.g. LEAS finds leases, released, etc.
IS is a full field entry exact match; the field entry must contain only the text entered, nothing more, nothing less.
Searches do NOT disregard punctuation.
Searches are not case sensitive.
