LTC Watanabe is correct based on exerpt from www.ajavets.org: "28 July - At another ceremony, the 2nd Battalion [442d Inf RCT] formed part of the Guard of Honor for King George VI of England, at Cecina. The King personally felicitates the members of the Battalion who had earned the Purple Heart and presented Silver Stars for gallantry in action. Date of photo (Circa 1945) should be verified. The Soldiers are wearing 34th Division (Red Bull) patches. When the 442 returned to Italy from France, they were not assigned to the 34th Division. 100th Battalion and later 442nd RCT were attached to 34th Division in 1943 (100 BN) and 1944 (442). If the caption (Cicina) is ocrrect, estimate is July 1944. Comment by Nathan Watanabe at 07:05:12 on 7 May 2007 |
