From back of print: The Women's Army Volunteer Corps passes in review before Major General H.T. Burgin, commanding general, Central Pacific Base Command, at the Iolani Palace Grounds, Honolulu, Hawaii, on July 2, 1945. Left to right, returning the salute of First Officer Mrs. Gayle B. Groo, who leads the WAVC, are: Mrs. Marjorie S. Breffeilh, WAVC field director; General Burgin; and Brigadier General Wayne C. Smith, chief of staff, CPBC. The WAVC, with ten regiments of the Territory's Organized Defense Volunteers, was released from military control on 4 July 1945. Members of the WAVC donated their services driving, clerking, typing, etc. as their contribution to the war effort, providing these services to the army without compensation from 1942 to 1945.
